The SouthWest Edgecombe boys’ basketball team finished second in the Eastern Plains Conference tournament after Friday’s 98-58 loss to Farmville Central in the championship game.

The Cougars (14-13) lost each of their three meetings this season with the undefeated Jaguars (26-0), who were the top seed in the tournament.

SWE was the third seed, and upset No. 2 Nash Central in overtime to reach the championship game. By halftime, SWE trailed 44-23.

The Cougars will wait for Saturday’s NCHSAA playoff seeding process to learn of its postseason fate. Because it finished the regular season third in the conference, SWE didn’t earn an automatic bid to the playoffs and will have to rely on its resume.
