TUESDAY'S ROUNDUP: Benton, Rocky Mount Prep grab conference win

The Rocky Mount Prep boys’ basketball team improved to 5-9 and 3-3 overall on Tuesday with a 79-71 home victory over Northampton County.

It was the Jaguars’ third win in four tries, and, as has been the case recently, Sam Benton led the team in the scoring department. The senior poured in 32 points to go with six assists on Tuesday. The performance was his third straight scoring at least 30 points in a game. Benton entered the game averaging 18.5 on the season, with fellow senior Trevor Batchelor right behind him at 17.9.


Farmville Central 113, SouthWest Edgecombe 79

The Cougars fell at home in league play to Farmville Central on Tuesday night. With the loss, SouthWest Edgecombe fell to 8-9 overall and 1-2 to begin conference play.

Southern Nash 63, Franklinton 61

The Firebirds improved to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big East with the home victory over Big East foe Franklinton on Tuesday night. The victory starts a new streak after Southern Nash fell in overtime to Rocky Mount High, 74-67, last game.


Farmville Central 90, SouthWest Edgecombe 51

The SouthWest Edgecombe girls’ basketball team dropped an Eastern Plains game at home on Tuesday to Farmville Central. After Tuesday’s defeat, the Courgars are 14-4 overall and 2-2 in conference.
