Northern Nash against Rocky Mount High in basketball, “the best matchup east of i-95,” as Northern Nash coach Henry Drake called it before a meeting last year, is set for another installment on Tuesday night.

This matchup, the second of three on the season for the boys’ teams — the first came in the finals of the Nash Country Christmas Tournament — will be hosted by the Knights with tipoff set for 8 p.m.

Northern Nash (16-1, 4-0) will take a 16-game win streak into the rivalry matchup, having most recently beaten Wilson Fike on Friday night by 25 points, a team that entered the game undefeated in conference.

The Gryphons (11-4, 1-2) enter the game Tuesday having won their first conference game of the season on Friday against Southern Nash, a 74-67 overtime victory. Their Big East losses are to Wilson Hunt and Wilson Fike.

In the girls’ matchup, set for a 6 p.m. tip, Rocky Mount High (12-4, 1-2) has the overall edge record-wise, but Northern Nash (6-8, 3-1) has the edge in Big East play, having won three of four against conference opponents.
