The Rocky Mount Academy boys’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday, an 83-39 decision on the road against Wayne Country Day.

The Eagles (5-1) surged through the first five games of their season to open 5-0, and scored no fewer than 50 points in each of the five victories. But a stout Chargers (5-5) team was too much to handle.

RMA won’t have to wait long to play again as it hosts Epiphany on Friday.

The Eagles (4-3) couldn’t catch the host Chargers in a non-conference loss.

RMA was able to snap a two-game losing skid with a win over Christ Covenant on Tuesday, but wasn’t able to use that lopsided, 50-19, win to secure another as the Eagles have now lost three of their past four games.

WCD improved to 8-1 with the win.
