Tarboro native Shaun Draughn, who played his college football at North Carolina and lasted six seasons in the NFL, most recently playing with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016, announced his official retirement from the NFL last week on Twitter and Instagram.

The former Viking scored nine touchdowns in his pro career, including seven in his final year with the 49ers.

In addition to his career update, Draughn also recently announced he’ll be back in his hometown on Dec. 16 for a winter coat drive ran by the Draughn Family Foundation with the hopes of giving away 100 winter coats to children ages 4 through 18.

Those interested in helping can donate $25, or drop off a donated coat between now and Dec. 14 at three different locations: Tarboro Brewing Company, Allure Me The Hair Estate in Durham, or Prime Lending in Raleigh.
