Artsplosion to put student talent on display

Edgecombe County Public Schools will hold a series of art-related events this week during its annual Artplosion event.

“Artsplosion is the annual celebration of the arts for Edgecombe County Public Schools, said Susan Hoke, communications and community relations coordinator for Edgecombe County Public Schools. “The benefits of an arts education are numerous, including positively impacting student motivation, attitudes and attendance. The opportunities to perform during the various events throughout the week of Artsplosion help our students build their self-confidence and allow for self-expression.”

The series will launch with a Variety Fest event, which begins at 7 p.m. tonight in the Keihin Auditorium in the Fleming Building on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Student groups representing various areas of the arts will showcase their talent at the event. 

Groups participating will be the Stocks Elementary Chorus, the SouthWest Edgecombe High School Jazz Band. the North Edgecombe High School Percussion Group, the G. W. Carver Step Team and the school’s Dance Club and the Trombone Quartet. The winners of the visual arts contest will be art contest will also be announced at this event. 

Choralfest will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Keihin Auditorium. This event will feature a representation of sounds of chorus students from elementary and middle schools throughout the school district.

Band Fest will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Keihin Auditorium. Band students from the school district's middle and high schools will engage in a day of intensive work with conductors to prepare for the evening's performance. 

Student artwork will be on display each evening in the atrium of the Fleming Building. 

Each event is free and open to the public.
