Police seek gunman in hotel robbery

Rocky Mount police are investigating a robbery at a local hotel this past week.

Cpl. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount Police Department said officers are looking for a man who robbed the Quality Inn North at 7797 N.C. 48 about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Battleboro community. Summerlin said the suspect was wearing a black ski mask and brandished a handgun at a 48-year-old female front desk clerk and forced her to give him money out of the register. According to a report, the robber stole $280.

Summerlin said the woman ran behind the back of the building to contact law enforcement while the robber fled in what was described to investigators in a beige automobile.

Summerlin said the suspect was described as a black man standing 6-foot, 1-inch tall, weighing 180 pounds, wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans and tennis shoes.

300 block of Woodland Avenue; stolen, weed eaters, leaf blowers, chainsaws and jar of change.

100 block of Hunting Lodge Drive: stolen, locks, bar and firearm.

200 block of Arlington Circle; stolen, DVD player and video game console.
