Rocky Mount police are cautioning businesses to always take time to verify that any money they receive is actual currency and not counterfeit bills.

A local pizza delivery driver received a counterfeit $20 on March 16 for a pizza. The driver realized it was fake and called police. Officers investigated and determined the customer didn't know the money wasn't real. The customer paid the driver with a debit card and the police seized the counterfeit bill as evidence.

“Take time to take a good look at money,” said Rocky Mount police Cpl. Brad Summerlin.

Anyone with information about any crime in the area is asked to contact Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111 or crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov. Text a tip to police at 274637 by beginning messages with RMPOL to direct the tip to the Rocky Mount Police Department and type up to 155 characters about the information.
