Big Sweep to help clean litter from area

Residents are invited to take part in the Twin Counties Big Sweep Day from 9 a.m. until noon on Sept. 28.

Teams will meet at the boat ramp in Battle Park in Rocky Mount and River Front Park in Tarboro. The Big Sweep is an annual event that allows civic groups, schools and neighborhoods to clean up litter in the Twin Counties.

More than 3,000 pounds of trash and debris have been collected during past clean-ups.Big Sweep Day is in conjunction with the state Department of Transportation Office of Beautification 2019 Fall Litter Sweep through Sept. 28 and a month-long North Carolina Big Sweep effort that runs through Oct. 16.

“We need everyone to come out and help clean up our community, one piece of litter at a time,” said Stephanie Collins, Keep America Beautiful of Nash and Edgecombe Counties coordinator.
