Sarah Cathryne Coltrane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Coltrane, has been awarded this year’s Ann MacPherson Weaver Memorial Scholarship at Rocky Mount Academy.

Currently an eighth-grader at Martin Millennium Academy in Tarboro, Coltrane will attend RMA in the fall on a full-tuition scholarship, valued at over $45,000 for four years.

The Weaver Scholarship was established at Rocky Mount Academy in 1986 in memory of a 1984 graduate who had succumbed to cancer earlier that year. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who has never attended RMA and who best represents the attributes that Ann Weaver embodied.

“I am thrilled to introduce Sarah Cathryne Coltrane as the newest Ann Weaver Scholar,” said Janie Mac Pittman, a member of the Ann Weaver Scholarship Committee. “As always, the committee's decision was difficult because of the excellent nominees who took part in this process. Sarah Cathryne's outstanding academic record, varied extracurricular activities, and commitment to her community reflect the guiding core values we look for in the Ann Weaver scholars.

“I am excited to welcome her to the RMA family in the new school year.”

Coltrane is a straight-A student who has consistently earned honors throughout her young career ranging from the Magnificent Millennium Shake Award to the Principal’s List and citizenship awards. She has won first place in a Rotary essay contest, third place in Art Explosion and third place at Beta Club Convention in the Quiz Bowl competition.

Coltrane’s competitive spirit takes her to the water for recreation and as a member of the Tarboro Swim Club. Her love of the water extends to fishing and boating as well. She reaches the community through her church activities such as Backpack Buddies and participating in Diocese retreats.

She takes advantage of opportunities to volunteer in the Tarboro area through the Run For Your Life 5K, the Freedom School and many other outlets. Her selfless commitment to her community makes her a stand out!

Rocky Mount Academy is beyond excited to welcome Sarah Cathryne as she brings her energy and passion to the high school level. Head of School Beth Covolo adds,

“Each year in March, the Ann Weaver Scholarship application process brings us the opportunity to meet and get to know some of the most talented high school students in the area. This year was no exception,” Head of School Beth Covolo said. “Sarah Cathryne has been chosen as this year’s recipient because she is an outstanding young lady. Her commitment to academic excellence and community along with her positive perspective make her a perfect match for our mission to prepare students for the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities they will encounter in life and college.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Cathryne to Rocky Mount Academy”.
