Four local high school seniors recently represented Nash County at the Distinguished Young Women of North Carolina program in Greensboro.

During the week leading up to the program finals, they gained invaluable interview and public speaking skills. Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that rewards young women for excellence in the categories of Talent, Fitness, Self Expression, Interview and Scholastics. 

Participating in the program were Cassidy Green from Faith Christian School, the Distinguished Young Woman of Nash County; Mary Catherine Mayo from Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School, the Distinguished Young Woman of Red Oak; Ann Sumner Thorp from Rocky Mount Academy, the Distinguished Young Woman of Rocky Mount; and Jordan O’Leary from Nash Central High School, the Distinguished Young Woman of Nashville.

Thorp received preliminary awards in Talent, Self Expression, Interview and Scholastics and was named First Runner Up.
