Vidant Edgecombe Hospital is once again hosting a Joint Preservation Program, which is a multidisciplinary knee and hip osteoarthritis management program.
With the help of this program, participants can take back control of their osteoarthritis and once again do the things they enjoy.
This program aims to improve your day-to-day living and associated quality of life by reducing joint pain and stiffness while improving the function of your affected hip or knee joints. This step by step program consists of three phases over the course of 18 weeks.
Each six-week phase includes:
■ Exercise training with our trained professionals in addition to a home exercise routine.
■ Nutritional counseling including meal planning, cooking tips and education.
■ Personal and group motivation, support and advice via the Wellness Support Group as well as by phone.
The participants of the program in 2018 had tremendous success, including a 94.8 percent increase in distance for the six-minute walk test. Between all of them, they lost a total of 156 pounds and 4.9 percent of their body weight. They graduated from the program feeling better, both physically and mentally.
The Joint Preservation Program is free of charge but is limited to 15 participants. For more information about the program, contact Amanda Sparling at 252-641-7716 or Amanda.Sparling@vidanthealth.com.
