The winner of the LSV Scholarship Fund fundraiser “Win This Quilt” was Catherine Blackwell of Rocky Mount.

Blackwell was not present when Carmelo Gorham drew her name from the drawing box on Dec. 8 at Abrams Restaurant in Pinetops, but she was very happy to get the call. She said it was the first time she ever won anything.

For the past three years, the LSV Scholarship Fund has sponsored the fundraiser “Win this Quilt.” All quilts are made by Catherine Wooten of Woodbine, Md. A well-known designer originally from Pinetops, her first love of design was clothing. She held various fashion shows in North Carolina and the metropolitan area. She also enjoys exploring arts and crafts as well. Currently her love of design is quilting.

Each year, Wooten donates a beautiful quilt for the fundraiser. If you haven’t won yet, there is still hope. Next year in the fall, another beautiful quilt will be raffled.

“On behalf of the LSV Scholarship Committee we sincerely thank everyone for your generosity and support to the Scholarship Fund,” said Leah S. Vines, director of LSV Scholarship Fund, “Please visit the website at www.lsvscholarship.com for information and applications.”
