There is nothing that makes the environment more beautiful than flowers.

So the Sharpsburg Exchange Club is ecstatic to be a recipient of the 2018 33rd annual WRAL Azalea Celebration sponsored by WRAL-TV 5, MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM and NC Beautiful.

The Sharpsburg Exchange Club and other nonprofit organizations picked up free azalea plants from WRAL on Oct. 6.

A.J. Fletcher, founder of Capitol Broadcasting Co. created the WRAL Gardens and CBC President and CEO Jim Goodmon started the annual Azalea Celebration event in 1985 with the goal to promote environmental education and stewardship that “establish a continuous, well-maintained beautifying project for the community to enjoy and emulate.”

On Oct. 7, despite the heat and the hard work involved, Larry Finn, secretary-treasurer of the exchange club, Brandy Finn Chine, Nathan Chine, volunteers from VFW Post # 2057, and Officer Capps of the Sharpsburg Police Department came to help plant the azaleas.
