The Wilson-Rocky Mount-Tarboro Chapter of the Links Inc. completed its 70th year of distinguished service with a celebration at its first fabulous “White Party” for members, friends and supporters on Aug. 4 at Benvenue Country Club.
The Links Inc. is a service organization that promotes and engages in educational, civic, artistic and intercultural activities in order to enrich the lives of the area communities and the lives of members.
A signature initiative of the Wilson-Rocky Mount-Tarboro Chapter is the “White Rose Luncheon.” In November 2017, the luncheon was held at the Hilton Hotel in Greenville. This luncheon was the first specifically designated as a “Scholarship Luncheon.”
A large portion of the money from the sales of luncheon tickets was allocated to a special scholarship fund. Area high school graduating seniors who planned to attend a Historically Black College or University were invited to submit an application. The chapter received seven applications.
Each applicant submitted an excellent application which highlighted stellar academic performance and community service. The first scholarship was awarded to Eboni Taylor Davis from Fike High School in Wilson. Davis began the fall semester at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
The awarding of scholarships or other activities to support area high school graduating seniors planning to attend a Historically Black College or University will be on an annual basis.
In addition to the “White Rose Luncheon,” the chapter sponsored or participated in activities that represent the five facet areas of the organization: Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services.
The chapter sends a hearty “thank you” to its friends and supporters in its service areas and looks forward to the 2018-19 year of service, fun and fellowship and your continued support.
