Coastal Credit Union recently sponsored the attendance of Christina Pierce, a senior at Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School, and Tyrone Davis II, a junior at Rocky Mount Prep, at the cooperative leadership camp run by the Cooperative Council of North Carolina.
Pierce is an active member of her school and community, being a part of Key club, Interact Club and Keep America Beautiful of Nash County. She enjoys singing, reading and helping others. After graduation, Pierce hopes to attend college as a pre-med student so she can pursue becoming a general surgeon.
Davis is a stellar student, having the highest class average and also being the vice president of the National Honors Society at his school. He is also the treasurer of Rocky Mount Prep’s Student Government Association and a student ambassador. Davis also enjoys playing football and hopes to attend college after he graduates.
Coastal Credit Union, owned by its members, provides high-quality financial services to state residents.
The Cooperative Leadership Camp, hosted by the Cooperative Council of North Carolina, is an educational program for rising high school sophomores through seniors in North Carolina. The five-day resident camping program takes place in White Lake and features interactive workshops and presentations, team-building activities and recreation.
Cooperative Council of North Carolina member cooperatives are invited to sponsor a high school teen from their community and allow them to have this opportunity cost free. Students from across the state come together and learn about how Cooperatives are functioning in our state. Across all industries, cooperatives provide a solution to problems and this leadership camp allows teens to see that first hand.
