The Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Braswell Memorial Library is hosting Popsicles and Stories in the Park.

The free event is set for 10 a.m. on every other Tuesday at various parks around the city.

“We really wanted to engage and encourage youth to continue reading during the summer, and this program is a fun way to do that,” said Emily Randell, the city’s recreation services supervisor. “Staff members and volunteers from the library will be our guest readers.”

Popsicles and Stories in the Park locations are:

■ South Rocky Mount Community Center at 719 Recreation Drive on June 12;

■ Hornbeam Park at 150 Cunningham Drive on June 26;

■ Buck Leonard Park at 929 S. Grace St. on July 10;

■ Stith-Talbert Park at 729 Pennsylvania Ave. on July 24;

■ Three Sisters Park at 221 Walter Drive in Battleboro on Aug. 7;

■ And Sunset Park at 1550 River Drive on August 21.

The family-friendly event is for children of all ages and includes games, stories and free popsicles. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs for sitting.
