Fraternity sponsors oratorical contest

The Epsilon Sigma Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. recently sponsored its second annual Visions of Youth Oratorical Contest at Saint John AME Zion Church in Rocky Mount.

The winner of the Elementary-A Division was Ian Silver, a second-grader from Williford School. His topic was “Video Games.

The winner of the Elementary-B Division was Elisha Shingle, a fourth-grader from Rocky Mount Preparatory School. His topic was “The National Football League.”

The Middle School winner was Ke-Nius Wilkins, a sixth-grader who attends Rocky Mount Middle School. His topic was “I’m Going to Make a Change.”

The winner of the High School Division was Alfred Gordon, an 11th-grade student from Rocky Mount High School. His topic was “Cyber-Bullying.”

The winners were presented with first-place medallions. All oratorical contest participants received monetary awards and certificates of recognition from members of the fraternity.
