Cotillion celebrates local Debutantes

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. is finishing up its 70th Debutante Cotillion.
The members of the Rocky Mount chapter are preparing for scholarship presentations to the young ladies who participated in the pageant program.
Alona Jewell Grandy was crowned Queen of the 2018 Debutante Cotillion sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. The event was recently held in Rocky Mount. Alona is the daughter of Ms. April Jones and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewel and Brenda Jones. She is a senior at James B. Hunt High School.
The Queen’s court was first runner-up, Jada Tamera Peterson, a senior at Rocky Mount High School; second runner-up, Ke’Nya Shauntel Arnold, a senior at Tarboro High School; and third runner-up, Zhy’Keriah Hudgins, a senior at Rocky Mount High School.
The former 2017 Queen, Lauryn Alexis Worley who crowned Miss Grandy, gave an inspirational message of her first-year college experiences.
Edgecombe County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Valerie Bridgers gave the official welcome to society speech to the debutantes.
The members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority are so very proud to celebrate the many years that we have been blessed to share in the lives and families of so many young ladies. We have presented some $764,000 in scholarships. Thank you for sharing our vision and efforts to provide these scholarships.
