Banquet to award scholarships

The LSV Scholarship Awards Banquet will be held at 4 p.m. June 9 at Pines Chapel Church Fellowship Hall at 502 East Hamlet St. in Pinetops,
The 2018 LSV scholarship recipients will be presented scholarships valued at $1,000 each, plus an evening of celebration for the third LSV Scholarship Award Banquet.
The keynote speaker will be Crystal King, director of the Carolina Union at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She engages directly to provide strategic supervision, leadership, programmatic, budget and operational oversight for the following areas: Student Life and Leadership, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Activities, Student Organizations, Communication and Creative Services, Student Government and Event Services.
King is the first woman and the first African-American to lead the Carolina Union. In addition to facility management, she serves as an energetic, innovative and student-centered leader who develops, Implements and maintains programs that support students in their academic pursuits, campus life, civic and social responsibilities.
Entertainment will be provided by Nitia Slade, a seasoned vocalist with many years experience. Also performing will be violinist Heather Jones. She began playing the violin at the age of 8. She has performed at music festivals, private events, competitions and with orchestras across the state. She recently received a degree in psychology and music from UNC-Chapel Hill. While attending the university, she performed in the UNC Symphony Orchestra. She is currently a violin instructor, introducing her love of music to students of all ages. Both entertainers are from Raleigh.
Tickets for the banquet are available at $20 each and must be purchased in advance. Everyone is invited to attend. Donations are welcome. All donations are tax deductible.
