Laughter and love recently filled the air of The Impact Center at 821 Word Plaza.
Married couples from four generations connected and fellowshipped in celebration of holy matrimony. Under the leadership of Elder Charles and Sylvia Britt, who have been married for 48 years, the Marriage Ministry Committee decided to host a date night that was affordable, fun and safe in a relaxing setting.
For a fee of $25 per couple, the festive night included games such as Marriage Bingo, Family Feud, How Well Do You Know Your Spouse, Uno, a paint party, a viewing of the movie “Question of Faith,” a photo booth, a live band, dancing and heavy h’orderves. The DoubleTree hotel, Outback and Applebee’s partnered with Word Tabernacle Church’s Marriage Ministry to provide goodies for gift bags and coupons as door prizes.
Marion and Beverly Frazier, co-chairs of the committee, said how pleasant it was to witness husbands enjoying the paint party with their wives who may not have otherwise participated in a paint session. In addition to helping to reduce the divorce rate, the event allowed for new relationships of the faith to be built across generations from Millennials to Builders.
Sylvia Britt noted that it is important for married couples to have regular date nights because the quality time and stress relief of doing so often transfer to the home environment. Therefore, creating a healthy and nurturing atmosphere for the entire family.
Since 2008, the Marriage Ministry has provided premarital counseling via a six weeks course to over two-hundred individuals considering marriage from all over the region. Elder Charles Britt said he is amazed that the ministry is approaching its tenth year anniversary in April and is grateful for the number of marriages that have been impacted as a result.
While the country’s divorce rate is much higher, the Rev. James Gailliard takes joy in the fact that the divorce rate at Word Tabernacle Church is less than 15 percent.
To keep marriage at the forefront, activities are planned each quarter. Upcoming events include a play by Word Tabernacle Church’s Drama Ministry on marriage that will be free and open to the public wherein singles are encourage to attend as well as an “Ask the Panel,” which will allow questions and answers about marriage.
