Senator seeks applicants for page program

The office of N.C. Sen. Angela R. Bryant is currently seeking page applicants from Halifax, Nash, Vance, Warren and Wilson counties.

The Senate Page Office will accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis.

To be eligible, the page must be between the ages of 15 and 18, or 14 if already in the ninth grade, and be in good academic standing at school. Prior approval must be granted by the principal if pages are appointed to serve during the school year. Students who have not participated before will be given priority.

The page will be paid $150 for the week or can elect to choose 30 hours of community service. Room, board and transportation to and from the General Assembly will be provided by an approved volunteer. However, this service is only available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a $100 charge for room and board.

The page will be required to report at 1 p.m. on Monday and released at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Occasionally, the Senate will meet on Friday and pages will have the option of remaining on duty from 8 a.m. to noon. The page will be responsible for his or her own transportation to Raleigh on Monday and from Raleigh on Thursday.
