The Medical Emergency Response Team at Word Tabernacle Church recently completed its third blood drive at The Impact Center at 821 Word Plaza.
Frequently, the team collaborates with the American Red Cross Blood Bank in Greenville to help supply blood for medical purposes. MERT’s goal was to collect 43 units of blood. The drive collected 36 units, which is equivalent to 108 lives saved. Through the lenses of the American Red Cross, any amount of lives saved is a successful blood drive.
The Medical Emergency Response Team of Word Tabernacle Church is comprised of trained and certified nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physical therapists and lay workers from in the Rocky Mount community. Many of them were raised, educated and trained in Rocky Mount. Through faith, health and wellness, they share a commitment to grow their hometown. While they serve primarily with their home congregation, the team participates in various community events in conjunction with several churches and ministries.
Although the team takes pride in its blood drive accomplishments, their overall aim is to provide basic emergency medical care and help to develop people holistically, with a focus on spiritual and physical health. For 2018, the team has already planned Heart Saver CPR sessions, health related Lunch & Learn sessions and more blood drives.
