For the fourth straight year, Nash UNC Health Care Hospital donated school supplies to Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools after a hospital-wide school supply drive.

The Nash UNC Health Care Hospital school supply drive is an annual event that has resulted in thousands of school supplies being donated to Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools. New this year, the supplies that were collected are specifically for teachers, as items that teachers are usually in need of were the focus of this year’s supply drive.

Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools recently received the donations from Nash UNC Health Care Hospital during a small ceremony. Chief Communications Officer Dr. Patricia Hollingsworth received the donations on behalf of the district and thanked the hospital staff for their generosity.

“This is our fourth year of benefitting from your organization’s kindness, and we are truly appreciative. The teacher supplies are needed, and I assure you they will be put to good use. Thank you so much,” she said during the ceremony.

Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools maintenance employee and N.C. Maintenance Employee of the Year Elbert Purvis loaded boxes upon boxes of school supplies into a work truck with the help of Nash UNC Health Care staff and Hollingsworth. Items donated included paper, pencils, cleaning supplies and sanitizer, among other supplies.

The items will be distributed at several schools in the school system over the next few weeks under the direction of Sheila Wallace, director of federal programs.
