Edgecombe Community College recently graduated eleven cadets from its fourth Basic Academy for Basic Law Enforcement Training.

The graduation ceremony for Jerry Shoemaker, James Holloman, Joshua Miller, Jacob Strickland, Victoria Moore, David Manning, Tangie Staton, Rose Rivera, James Collie, Patrick Sharpe Jr. and Tysheika Lewis featured comments by Rivera, the platoon leader. Squad leaders Sharpe and Strickland presented the class plaque on behalf of the graduates to the college.

The cadets completed an intensive 19-week program. ECC's BLET is unique in that it includes training in high-risk calls and certification in the police shotgun, taser, expandable batons and pepper spray. Graduates also receive 19 college credit hours toward an associate degree in criminal justice.

The college’s next BLET Academy begins Feb. 5. To learn more, contact taylorb@edgecombe.edu.
