The Edgecombe County Arts Council’s Great Tarboro Art Bazaar opened to the public Friday and will continue through Nov. 24.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, giving patrons a chance to browse and to shop for holiday gifts until the show closes just after Thanksgiving.

“This event fulfills a very major part of our mission here at the arts council to promote local and regional artists,” council President Buddy Hooks said.

For staging and promoting their works, the arts council gets 30 percent commission from each piece that the artists sell.

“I am confident that our patrons will see many new works and many new styles from the artists that are participating this year. I emphasize to my artists that they must bring new works — repeat pieces will not be accepted,” Hooks said.

As promised, the bazaar will have more holiday decorations that last year ranging from needlework to hand-carved and painted ornaments.
