Corey Lamont Odom of Rocky Mount has been named Weldon City Schools 2017-18 Teacher Of The Year.

The announcement was made during the opening convocation on Aug. 23 at Halifax Community College.

Odom has been a teacher with Weldon City Schools for 18 years, serving as an Exceptional Children's Teacher at Weldon High School and Weldon Middle School. He is also a long-time football and basketball coach at both schools.

Prior to accepting this award, Odom acknowledged the partners that have supported him throughout this 18-year journey and invited them to come stand with him as he accepted this award on behalf of all of them. He stated "there is no ‘I’ in team.” One of his greatest passions is working as a team member with middle and high school children academically and athletically to bring out the success stories that lie within each child.

In addition to receiving numerous gifts and cards from his teammates and the district, he also received an all-expense paid trip to attend a professional development workshop of his choice anywhere in the continental United States. He will now compete in the North Central Regional process.

Odom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Mary B. Odom and has one son, Corey Joshua, who is a third-grader at Englewood Elementary School.
