Vidant Health to sponsor free 'check-up' event

Vidant Health is gearing up for their first ever ‘Fall Community Check-up’ event to be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 23 at Vidant Multispecialty Clinic-Tarboro at 101 Clinic Drive. The event is free and open to the public.
During this “Check-up” day, families in and around the community will have the opportunity to come out and take advantage of cancer screenings, health resources and information, education and activities for the kids. Spanish-speaking volunteers will be readily available to assist our non-English speaking attendees.
Free prostate cancer screenings will be offered, as well as clinical breast exams and skin cancer screenings. Other screenings such as blood pressure checks will be available as well.
Refreshments, kid activities such as a bounce house, face tattoos, popcorn and balloons will be all free and on site that day.
Also on site that day will be ‘Roland the Colon,’ a giant inflatable colon. This is an excellent educational tool, featuring various stages of disease with explanations of normal colon tissue, Crohn’s disease, Polyp, malignant polyp, colon cancer and advanced colon cancer.

■ Healthy food demonstrations
■ Education on behavioral health/mental health topics
■ Smoking cessation
■ Sleep studies information and education
■ Information on Community CPR
■ Chair exercises with exercise physiologist
■ Chronic Disease Self-Management Program information provided by Edgecombe County Health Department
■ Information on upcoming Run For Your Life 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run, hosted by Edgecombe Cancer Support Foundation
■ Education on infant mortality provided by Edgecombe County Health Department
■ Breastfeeding information and resources provided by Edgecombe Co. Health Department
■ Information about the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program through the Edgecombe County Health Department
■ Tools and information on disaster planning and preparedness
■ Medicaid application information provided by Edgecombe County Department of Social Services
■ Information on the Silver Sneakers Program provided by the YMCA in Rocky Mount
■ Information and resources from Rural Health Network, Down East Partnership for Children, and Conetoe Family Life Center.
