Special Event: The public is invited to provide input that will help shape the direction of the region's transportation system by completing an online survey. Meeting: The Nash/Edgecombe Chapter of Medical Assistants meets every second Tuesday of the month, except July and December at 5:30 p.m. at Gardner's, 1331 N. Wesleyan Blvd.

Meeting: The U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. - Old North State Chapter meets from 10 a.m.-noon the second Saturday of each month at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2057, 11270 E. N.C. 97. Registration Accepted: First United Methodist is accepting registration for its preschool and kindergarten classes for the 2018-19 academic year. They also offer Mother's Morning Out for ages 18 months through 4 years old from 9 a.m.-noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; two years old class Tuesdays and Thursdays; three years old class Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; and a pre-k class Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Meeting: The Abbott Retiree Club will meet at noon Thursday at Pizza Inn. The speaker will be Andrew Strickland with Community Support Agriculture. The cost is $10 per person for the meal and annual dues are $10 per family. All Abbott and Hospira Retirees are welcome to attend.

Special Event: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Chi Omega and Tau Gamma Chapters, will hold a "Pink Goes Red" event to raise awareness of women's heart health from 8:08-9:08 p.m. Friday in the Taylor Center Auxiliary Gym at N.C. Wesleyan College. $1 donation is requested for non-students. Please wear red. Healthy refreshments will be provided.

Special Event: A Super Bowl Tailgate will be held from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the Bel Air Art Center. Koi Pond Brewing Co., Cousin Maine Lobster and Station Square Records will be there for lobster, craft beer, music and art.

Open House: New Life Christian Academy, 812 Instrument Drive, will hold an open house and open enrollment for the 2018-19 school year from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 8. For information, call 443-6560.

Precinct Meeting: Griffins Precinct will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at 9023 Cedar Grove School Loop Road, Nashville. All democrats who vote at this school are encouraged to attend.

Special Event: The city of Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation department will host a Mother & Son dance from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences. The event is for women with males ages 5-15. Tickets are $25 per couple. Additional males are $5 each. Proceeds benefit the Parks and Recreation scholarship fund. For information, call 467-4925.

Precinct Meetings: The Nash County Democratic Party organizational meeting for three Rocky Mount precincts will be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10 at the Nash County Democratic headquarters, 1916 Stone Rose Drive. The meetings include Sunset precinct for people who vote at Englewood United Methodist Church; Benvenue precinct for those who vote at Benvenue Baptist Church; and Winstead precinct for those who vote at Englewood Baptist Church. Special Event: The Pitt County Historical Society will hosts its 12th annual "Antiques Show and Tell" from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Winterville Train Depot, 217 Worthington St., Winterville. The public is invited to submit vintage and antique items to be evaluated by a panel of local experts. Items to be shown should be submitted by 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Prom Closet: First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount and United Community Ministries are accepting donations of gently used formal wear, tuxedos, jewelry, shoes and other accessories for their Prom Closet. The formal wear will be offered to those in need whom the prom organizers, social/​guidance counselors of the area schools have identified. Community Dance: A community dance is offered from 5-7 p.m. every Monday at the Nash County Senior Center, 103 N. Alston St., Nashville. Cost is $4 for ages under 60 and $3 for age 60 and older.

Volunteers: 3HC Home Health and Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers for hospice patients in the Rocky Mount/​Nash/​Edgecombe County area. The only special skills required are a compassionate heart and smile. 3HC Home Health and Hospice will provide the training. Volunteers are asked for a minimum of two hours per week.
