Special Event: The Edgecombe Streetriders and the Galactica Universal Social Club will hold its annual New Year's Day breakfast Monday at Abram's in Tarboro. The meal is dutch style and attendees are asked to bring non-perishable items for the shelter.

Unity Breakfast: The 30th annual Unity Breakfast honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held at 7 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. The theme is "Unfinished Work of a Dreamer." The program begins at 8 a.m. and will feature keynote speaker Synthia Saint James. Registration Accepted: First United Methodist will accept registration for its preschool and kindergarten classes for the 2018-19 academic year beginning Jan. 20. Prom Closet: First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount and United Community Ministries are accepting donations of gently used formal wear, tuxedos, jewelry, shoes and other accessories for their Prom Closet. The formal wear will be offered to those in need whom the prom organizers, social/​guidance counselors of the area schools have identified. Community Dance: A community dance is offered from 5-7 p.m. every Monday at the Nash County Senior Center, 103 N. Alston St., Nashville. Cost is $4 for ages under 60 and $3 for age 60 and older.

Volunteers: 3HC Home Health and Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers for hospice patients in the Rocky Mount/​Nash/​Edgecombe County area. The only special skills required are a compassionate heart and smile. 3HC Home Health and Hospice will provide the training. Volunteers are asked for a minimum of two hours per week.
