NCWC baseball holds off Huntingdon, advances

The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team advanced in the USA South Conference tournament with a 3-2 first-round win over Huntingdon on Thursday in LaGrange, Ga.
The Bishops (23-14) will play Covenant at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in the second round.
Nash Central grad Noah Shrock earned the save — his sixth of the season — and navigated a tricky bottom half of the ninth inning to do so. Starter Drew Tubb, who allowed two earned runs over eight innings, exited with no outs in the ninth after the first two Huntingdon batters reached base.
A sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third, then a single scored one run to cut the NCWC lead to 3-2. But, with the infield in, Shrock induced a ground ball to shortstop Alec Titmus, who threw home to nab the would-be tying run and the second out.
Shrock then recorded the third out with a looking strikeout, painting the outside corner with a fastball.
The Bishops collected five hits as a team, and scored two runs in the seventh and one in the second.
