A local full service logistic company recently took home a distinction from a Raleigh-based news media company.

Crown LSP Group was one of 16 businesses to receive a 2017 Triangle Business Journal Family Business Award at an event in December at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary. The second year event recognized multigenerational, family-owned businesses in the Triangle and surrounding areas for overall excellence, innovation, ethics, philanthropy and contribution to the strength of the region.

Adam Hodges, director of operations for Crown LSP Group, said the company was started by his parents in 1987. He added the company just celebrated its 30th anniversary last June. Crown LSP employs 85 workers and is located at 400 English Road.

Hodges said Crown’s main areas are transportation, asset-based management and a broker division, as well as owning its own line of Crown trucks on the road with the ability to contract with other carriers to haul freight from one place to another. He said another sector of revenue is the company’s warehousing facility, which was repurposed years ago from a textile plant.

Hodges said what made the award special was being honored from a larger geographical standpoint.

“We’re very honored and it’s truly a blessing because this award represented Crown at a broader regional level and not just here locally in Rocky Mount,” Hodges said. “Crown was proud to represent the Rocky Mount area in a regional level. We also feel winning this award will give us an extra level of creditability when we go to our customers. We’ve got a good group of customers in Eastern North Carolina, and we’re trying to extend our footprint out to other locations within the state and other states across the Southeast region. Winning this award helps not only build our brand but gives that extra crediability to go after larger customers that may be more accustomed to working with some of the bigger national competitors.”

Hodges said Crown also wants to continue to build its community outreach and become the premiere logistics service provider locally.

“Rocky Mount is a great logistic hub being at the crossroads of (Interstate) 95, (U.S) 64 and Future I-87,” he said. “We’re really positioned in a great spot and we really see a lot of activity in this area increasing in the coming years.”

Crown has high hopes of possible growth in 2018.

“We feel very positive about the direction of the company this year,” Hodges said. “With there being a lot of economic development coming to the Rocky Mount and Twin Counties area, we’re very excited. Our expansion sales team is constantly looking for new leads and we have several projects in the works. If we’re able to secure those projects, it could be a big boost in business for us in both employee count and expansion in other areas.”
