State Bar certifies Tucker in criminal law

Rocky Mount attorney Damian L. Tucker recently was recognized as a Board Certified Specialist in Criminal Law by the North Carolina State Bar.
Tucker, a partner at Hester & Tucker PLLC since 2006, concentrates his legal practice in the area of criminal defense in the N.C. District and Superior Courts of Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson counties. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and his Juris Doctor from the N.C. Central University School of Law.
Tucker is also a member of the Criminal Defense section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He has also been licensed to practice law in the Georgia since 2000. The North Carolina State Bar, an agency of the state of North Carolina, certifies lawyers as specialists in designated practice areas as a service to the public. The program assists members of the public in the selection of legal counsel by identifying lawyers who have demonstrated special knowledge, skill and proficiency in certain areas of law. The program also gives attorneys a credible way of making their expertise known to the public and other lawyers.
To become a board certified specialist in any practice area, a lawyer must be an active member in good standing with the N.C. State Bar for at least five years, devote at least 25 percent to specialty practice during the past five years, attend continuing education classes, receive favorable evaluations from other lawyers and judges and pass a written examination in specialty practice area.
Tucker began his legal career as a prosecutor and has been practicing criminal defense since 2001. He serves as general counsel for the Middle Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Tucker also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region and Board of Commissioners for Nash UNC Health Care.
